Pavillion

module 3

My concept is to create a pavilion that blends in with the surrounding environment and let the users experience the changing of the thermal and the surrounding environment. In order to create different experience throughout different time, I create adaptive façade can be adaptive and change with the surrounding environment. I also choose the reflective material to create a light feeling.

The pavilion can be access form any direction, however I deliberately make
the south west end easier to access. The reason for that is to let the south west
end point to the NGV, which share the same cube build form, to correspond
to each other. The south west end is the crowed end as well, the design can
make the user feel being invited.

The landscape and the frame of the pavilion is considered as threshold. The
threshold is created by introduce a different space between the grass and
the pavilion, using different material and change the level can really help to
define a threshold. The landscape also creates many space to accommodate
users, but due to the different slope of the landscape, the south west side is
more populated.

The material I choose for my site is chrome, concrete, timber and fabric. To archive my concept, the reflectivity of the material in my consideration, chrome has very shinny finish and light weight, that is why I choose chrome. Concrete is a material with very high thermal mass, it can absorb the heat in the daytime and release at night to worm the pavilion. I also apply some timber to the surface of the concrete to provide different thermal experience to the users. The fabric is flexible, it can run inside the framework and connect the cylinders and hang to the framework, by pulling or releasing the string can control the height of the cylinders.
